I have been asked several times about how and when this Hospice Veteran Partnership got started. About 8 years ago I retired to take care of my wife who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. I reached out to VA and asked if there was a way to get a ramp and caregiver services. Unfortunately, I did not qualify for either and didn’t really know where to turn for help even though I worked with veterans in getting their needs met.
It was then that I realized that if I was without answers, then the community at large must be also. I received the help I needed when I reached out to AACOG through their Veteran Assistance program. I decided then that there needed to be an organization that could be a one stop shop for information in helping veterans. So South Central Texas Hospice Veteran Partnership was formed. That was 8 years ago. Here we are not with a Board membership of 15 organizations whose goal is to:
· Provide education to the community for veteran needs
· Build relationships between anyone that shares the vision to help veterans and their families.
· Improve access to benefits and healthcare needs for veterans and their families.
· Create a coalition of Community, VA and Healthcare organizations that provide services to veterans and their families.
Our motto: Hospice Veteran Partnerships are a coalition of Dept. of Veteran Affairs, WHV partners, Community Organizations working together to ensure excellent care for our nations veterans.
